LONGRIDGE TOWERS SCHOOL CHILD PROTECTION (SAFEGUARDING) POLICY.

1. AIMS

Longridge Towers School recognises its responsibilities for child protection.  Our policy applies to all staff, governors and volunteers working in the School, including those in the EYFS setting.

1.1       There five main aims of our policy are:

1.1.1    To establish a safe environment in which children can learn and develop;

1.1.2    To ensure we practice safe recruitment in checking the suitability of staff and volunteers to work with children, including enhanced CRB checks and compliance with Independent School Standards regulations;

1.1.3    To raise awareness of child protection issues and to equip children with the skills needed to keep them safe;

1.1.4    To develop and implement procedures for identifying and reporting cases, or suspected cases, of abuse;

1.1.5    To support pupils who have been abused.

1.2      We recognise that because of the day to day contact with children, school staff are well placed to observe  the         outward signs of abuse.  The School will therefore:

1.2.1 Establish and maintain an environment where children feel secure, are encouraged to talk and are listened to;

1.2.2 Ensure children know there are adults in the school  whom they can approach if they are worried;

1.2.3  Include opportunities in the PSHE curriculum for children to develop the skills they need to recognise  and stay   safe   from abuse.

In formulating this policy the School has had due regard for the guidance entitled ‘Safeguarding Children and Safer Recruitment in Education' published by the DfES, which came into force 1 January 2007, and ‘Guidance for Safer Working Practice for Adults who work with Children and Young People 2007' together with the Boarding Schools National Minimum Standards.  In addition we have consulted ‘Working Together to Safeguard Children' (2006).
