Mathematics
Maths at Longridge is taught to pupils within small ability sets to tend to pupil's specific skills and capabilities. The Maths department is fully equipped with interactive Mathematical software. Cabri-Geometry is available in the Maths department, while Autograph and Math-type is available on the whole school network. Every student within the school can access a huge range of past examination papers, PowerPoint lessons and other resources such as homework questions from any computer within the school at any time.
The GCSE course is designed to encourage pupils to discuss and use mathematical ideas, as well as using techniques they have developed. Real-life applications are used wherever possible.
At AS and A Level in the Sixth Form, a minimum of grade B at higher level GCSE is recommended, candidates studying A Level Mathematics cover AS in their first year and A2 in the second. Further Mathematics at AS level involves another three modules and at A level involves another six modules. It is a subject for enthusiasts who would find the basic A Level relatively straightforward.
