Music

Music plays a vibrant and exciting part of life at Longridge Towers School. The Junior Department pupils have music lessons with a specialist teacher from Reception onwards and enjoy activities such as action songs, chants, exploring classroom instruments, making up music and responding to music in a number of different ways. From J3-J5 all pupils participate in class recorder lessons. At Longridge J3 are given a term's free violin tuition as part of the curriculum. The Department offers Music at GCSE and AS level.

Within the Senior School, music lessons are based around a variety of topics including the Blues, film music, the popular song since 1960 and the development of the orchestra. Performing continues to be an important part of the music curriculum and in addition to singing, the pupils make good use of modern electric keyboards, guitars and tuned percussion. Composition is aided by the use of computers and Sibelius software.
