Science

The Science Department is the largest Department in the School and presents candidates for three separate Science subjects: Physics, Chemistry and Biology at both GCSE and A level.

General science is taught from the age of 8 in the Junior Department and for the first two years of the Senior School. From the age of 13, Form 3, pupils start GCSE in three separate sciences. At the end of Form 3 pupils choose to take either Science and Additional Science (the equivalent of two GCSEs) or two or three separate sciences.

The small class sizes which are a feature of the school are particularly beneficial in the teaching of Science where much of the practical content of courses requires one-to-one interaction with the teacher.

The Department is well-resourced and is accommodated in a suite of four science laboratories in the Senior School. The Junior Department also enjoys access to its own Science Laboratory within the Stobo building.
