Annual Scholarships Deadline 17th November

8th November 2008

Longridges's annual scholarship and bursary award examinations will take place on Saturday 29th November.  The school offers academic, sports and music awards for pupils who wish to join Form 1 (Age 11), Form 3 (Age 13) and the Lower Sixth.

The academic and sports awards provide school fee reductions, of up to 10% of the fees depending upon performance in the examinations. Academic awards recognise a pupil’s potential to be outstandingly successful in academic studies. Music and sports awards ensure that those students talented in music and sports are encouraged to develop their special abilities. Music scholarships provide instrumental tuition within school by a specialist teacher. Application forms for the 2009 awards are now available from the School’s Admissions Secretary on 01289 307584.

The government has encouraged the independent sector to provide opportunities for suitably able students from less affluent backgrounds, and the Governors have introduced a scheme which does that. To assist those families the governors have recently introduced a Governors’ Bursary Scheme intended for pupils seeking entry to Form 1. Bursaries are awarded on the basis of an annual statement of income and assets, following the completion of the usual entry procedures which include an interview with the Headmaster and an assessment in English and Mathematics.

Parents of pupils who are successful in the scholarship examinations, but whose circumstances are such that they may not be able to afford the balance of the annual fees, may subsequently apply for a Bursary which is given on the basis of a statement of annual income. Bursaries are worth up to a maximum of 50% of the annual fees.

All applications for Scholarships and Bursaries should be received by Monday 17th November.
