Drysdale’s Turnips were in for a Treat!
11th November
This year’s annual Longridge Towers Halloween lantern competition sponsored by Berwickshire Business R&K Drysdale turned into a fashion parade of people and creatures. Some where topical, some were seasonal and all were a fantastic illustration of the creations that can be carved from the humble vegetable, the turnip. It was a fashion parade which included sheep, a scarecrow, a robin, and even the President’s men.
The winner of the 2008 Drysdale Inter House Turnip Lantern competition was James Brewis from Swinton for his caterpillar, 2nd was Annabel Tyser, 3rd - Lewys Ball, 4th - Beth Mellor and 5th - Charlotte Coats. R&K Drysdale produce over 30,000 turnips each year, and Head of the Junior Department Shelagh Philips thanked them as she judged the entries: “The turnip lantern competition is always one of the highlights of the year for children in the Junior Department, and is only possible; thanks to the support we receive from R&K Drysdale. We have had thirty entries and I am amazed at the creativity, attention to detail and the time and effort put in by all of the children”.
