Longridge’s Godspell holds its audience spellbound and heads for the Maltings!

8th December 2008

The school theatre reverberated to the sound of ‘Godspell’ last week as this year’s senior drama production took to the stage.  ‘Godspell’ was a hugely successful performance in the 1970s and it started a trend in which stories from the Bible were seen as suitable material for presentation in the form of a rock musical.Based on St Matthew’s Gospel, the piece does not have a conventional storyline, but consists of a series of episodes retold by the performers through the medium of song, dance and movement.

It was a vibrant, exciting performance in which every member of the cast gave a convincing, professional performance.  veryone on stage was energetic and danced, sang and spoke their lines with vigour.  The pacing was excellent, and the transitions between the moods of each scene were seamless.  All of the cues were well timed and the whole performance held the audience spellbound. Directed by Mrs L Lee (Production Director) and Mrs I Cheer (Musical Director) the performers were from years 10 and 11, and the band was drawn from both pupils and members of staff.

For those who were not able to see the production at the School the show is to be performed at The Maltings Arts Centre in Berwick-upon-Tweed on February 27th and 28th 2009 and tickets will son be available from the box office there.
