28th October 2008
Captained by Jack Webster of Ayton, this week sees twenty one pupils from Longridge Towers School and two staff embarking on a rugby tour to British Columbia, Canada. The team contains players from across the Scottish Borders and North Northumberland who accompanied by two members of staff.
Hudson Homes who are currently building the prestigious development, ‘The Grange' in Castle Terrace, Berwick have sponsored the kit for both for this rugby tour and the School's Hockey tour of South Africa earlier this year.
The twelve day trip for the Longridge rugby tour involves four matches. Starting in Vancouver it quickly moves on to Abbotsford for the first match against Yale Secondary School. From there the party takes a ferry to Vancouver Island. From their base in Victoria there will be two further games against Velox Rugby Club and Cowichan Rugby Club. Whilst in Victoria, the pupils will visit the Royal BC museum, an ice hockey game of Salmon Kings v Utah, and watch humpback whales and orcas. After their final fixture and hosting with Vanier High School, the tour culminates with a visit to Grouse Mountain and the Capilano suspension bridge which is 137m long and 70m above the canyon floor.
Sponsoring the Rugby and Hockey tours for Longridge Towers shows Hudson Homes commitment to investing in the local community and giving the pupils of Longridge the opportunity to participate in very memorable and valuable experiences.
The sponsorship given by Hudson Homes to the sporting tours of Longridge Towers was seen by Managing Director Jamie Hudson, of Peebles, as a natural partnership: "We identified with Longridge Towers, both Hudson Homes and Longridge provide quality products which compete with others in their fields and this is down to small, hard working teams, who strive for excellence".
