Admissions Q&A
At what age can my child enter LTS?
Children enter Longridge at all ages. We have pupils joining the school in virtually every year of the Junior Department, although Reception, J4 (NC Year 4) and J5 (NC Year 5) are particularly popular. In the Senior School our most popular points of entry are Forms 1-3 (NC Years 7-9) and the Sixth Form. Such a variety of entry points is largely down to the fact that our catchment area extends on either side of the border, so we have pupils joining Longridge from both English and Scottish schools.
What is the entrance procedure?
The school accepts pupils with a wide range of abilities. Pupils who apply for admission are expected to sit an entrance assessment in English and Maths. This is designed to provide information about the standard of pupils before they enter the school. We also carry out simple assessments on pupils who wish to join our youngest classes: these frequently involve simple play tasks which provide valuable indications of a child's knowledge and skills before they join the school.
How can I get to know more about Longridge?
The best way to sense Longridge's special atmosphere is to visit the school. Visits may be arranged at very short notice by contacting the Admissions Secretary. Once an initial visit has taken place, you may wish your child to experience the school for themselves by having a taster day where they spend a day at school and take part in the lessons along with the other pupils in the year group.
My child has Special Needs: will the school be able to cater for him/her?
The School offers a limited amount of addition support for pupils with Special Needs: please request a copy of our Special Needs Policy. The Headmaster will also be pleased to discuss with you the particular needs of your child.
