Boarding experience
Longridge has a happy, thriving boarding community and our commitment to strong pastoral care is aimed at ensuring pupils are supported, encouraged and nurtured while they are with us.
Pupils board for many reasons, whether full-term, weekly, or temporarily when family arrangements require, no matter the reason, our boarders thrive in a safe and stimulating ‘home from home' atmosphere when they stay here.
Our non-teaching, dedicated houseparents and full-time resident matron look after their needs with care and consideration, the boarders consider themselves part of a large, thriving family.
Every effort is made, particularly in the case of young or first-time boarders to ensure they settle happily and houseparents are very quick to spot occasional signs of homesickness, dealing with it sensitively and with understanding. All new pupils are assigned a ‘friend' who will show them round the school and take them from lesson to lesson during the first few days to help them settle in.
The centre of boarding house life, shared by all boarders, revolves around the large Common Room with its comfortable, relaxing furnishings and wide screen television while the well-equipped Games Room includes table tennis, pool and table football.
All of our bedrooms, either single or shared by a maximum of three, have been recently redecorated and each contains facilities for individual study. All have their own wash-hand basins while some have full en-suite facilities.
Living away from home for the first time is a very new and exciting experience for a student. At Longridge we recognise that this prospect can sometimes be a little daunting for a new boarder and how important settling in is. That is why we concentrate much of our effort into ensuring our boarding pupils come to regard Longridge as a ‘home from home' which is welcoming, comfortable, friendly and safe, where long-lasting friendships are formed and new interests stimulated.
Longridge's extensive facilities, combined with the stunning and accessible location, makes it ideally suited as a pleasant place to stay, creating ‘a sense of belonging' for all.
Although academic development is the main focus, our boarding pupils also enjoy many opportunities to take part in the extensive range of extra curricular activities available.
