A group of seventeen pupils and three staff travelled to Poland during the Easter holidays for a visit to the Auschwitz concentration camps and the Wieliczka Salt Mines. On arrival, the group had a guided tour of Krakow, visiting the Jewish quarter, a synagogue and Oscar Schindler’s Factory. This was tiring as they left at 3am in the morning! The second day they visited both the Auschwitz and Birkenau concentration camps, and learned the horrors of the holocaust first hand. During the afternoon, they had a very enlightening meeting with a survivor of Auschwitz. On the final day, the group visited the spectacular salt mine, entering by 54 flights of stairs! The scale of the mine was stunning. All of the group had an excellent time and learned a great deal about the history of the holocaust.
