Sport and Physical Education
This is a dynamic department concerned with offering every child the opportunity to take part in physical activity, and achieving their full potential. The major team games in the Michaelmas and Lent terms are rugby for the boys and hockey for the girls. We have strong links with various local clubs, especially for rugby and hockey. Competitive fixtures are organised during the week and on Saturdays with local schools, or with schools in Edinburgh or Newcastle. Football and Cross-country running are also offered. In the summer term the main activities are cricket, athletics, rounders and tennis. Other facilities include a purpose-built Sports Hall (large enough for four badminton courts), Rugby and Hockey pitches, four all-weather tennis courts, as well as an all-weather cricket strip.
Outstanding pupils are encouraged to gain places in County teams and our unique location allows access to either the English or Scottish pathways.
Swimming for members of the Junior Department and for pupils in Forms 1&2 takes place at the local swimming pool in Eyemouth to which pupils travel by bus.
The school boasts numerous County hockey and rugby players with two recent representatives for Scotland Under 18 Rugby. Members of the school's rugby and hockey teams are also given the opportunity to go on various tours throughout the year. The first XI Hockey squad are touring South Africa in July 2008; and the under 17s rugby squad are touring Canada - the second Canada tour in three years.
