A day in the life
"I arrive about half past eight in the morning and I really look forward to school! I see rows of lockers and cubby holes for pupils to keep their belongings in, then I walk through a door that leads to the Atrium where there are classroom doors: J4, J5 and J6. One of them is mine! My younger sister and I take down the chairs and help the teacher until it is time for my sister to go to Jerningham, where the 4 to 7 year olds have their classes ,and I help her unpack. Then I go back up to my Stobo classroom and hand in my homework.
When we all sit down in our form rooms our teacher, Miss Oates, hands out any notices and letters, then cheerily reads out the register saying, "Good morning!" to each of us. We then march into the assembly listening to one of our pupils playing their musical instrument. Mrs Phillips, (the Head of Junior Department), stands in front of everybody, smiling with joy. Pupils take turns to do a reading and we all sing a hymn accompanied by older pupils on their instruments. Mrs Phillips is still smiling at us when we leave to go to our classes at the end of assembly! Lately, one of the House Captains, has been giving us a world update on the news. Then, finally, we go to lessons! I have many feelings as I file out: excited, enthusiastic and eager. But I never feel bored! A busy school day is just beginning.
The day is interspersed with lessons which can be Maths, English, Science, History, Geography, R.S., P.H.S.E, Art, French, ICT, CDT, Games, Activities, P.E., Swimming and Home Economics. The teachers show me I can enjoy learning. Knowledge is made much easier as the teachers explain it to me in a fun way.
On Tuesday morning we get changed for P.E. and for tennis. After a warm up, we rally in pairs. In the winter we dribble around markers in hockey or learn how to tackle in rugby. We play quite a lot of matches against other schools and afterwards we have delicious doughnuts and juice !
We have three breaks to enjoy and have fun in the open space, surrounded by lush, green woods and with our brilliant new play equipment. Our first break starts at 10:20 goes on for 15 minutes. Hurray for break !! There is just over an hour to wait, which equals two lessons until lunch break when all Juniors eat formally together followed by half an hour playtime. We then have afternoon registration. At 2:55 we have 10 minute break before having two more lessons.
A lot of pupils go to music lessons too; most of the people in J5 play the piano. There are lots of different instruments to play. Drama on Tuesday is very enjoyable. We have Mrs Lee as our drama teacher the moment. We have good fun acting, playing special games and doing mini plays.
J5's next lesson is double art, which is great fun. We are making jewellery. After this we all walk back up to the Stobo, take off our art overalls and either go home on a bus or by car. People like me go on a bus to help the environment. When we get off the bus or out of the car we have homework. I'm sure everybody has fun doing it!!"
