Outdoor Learning with Mrs Murray

Forest School is a child-centred inspirational learning process that offers opportunities for holistic growth through regular sessions. It is a long-term program that supports play, exploration and supported risk taking. Here at Longridge, Junior children have Forest School and Forms 1-3 have Outdoor Learning sessions every week throughout the year. It develops confidence and self-esteem through learner inspired, hands-on experiences in our natural woodland environment. This provides children with many opportunities to explore problem solving tasks and to experience success which helps to develop resilient, confident, independent and creative learners. The children develop knowledge and skills in fire and cooking, shelter building, nature and wood-craft. We recognise the many benefits to the health and well-being of our pupils that comes from spending quality time in the natural environment.

In Junior School every class spend half a term of their Forest School time allocation at the coast where we ‘Teach on the Beach’. Following the same principles as Forest School, the children enjoy a range of cross curricular activities at beautiful Cocklawburn beach.
