Brings back lots of happy memories. Have a fantastic celebration 🎉

In Senior assembly, pupils reflected upon the figures of St George and William Shakespeare, in advance of St George’s Day and Shakespeare's birthday today. Although the historical figure of St George was likely not a knight (probably a Roman soldier), was not English but came from the region now known as Turkey, and, perhaps disappointingly, did not slay a real dragon but rather incorporated elements of other stories such as the classical myth of Perseus, nonetheless he remains a symbol of the nation through his metaphorical heroism against dangerous forces. Likewise Shakespeare’s plays draw upon a wide range of sources, transforming these into a dynamic dramatic form and expanding our national culture and language. As we look to the School’s 40th anniversary celebrations, we remember the richness of our own heritage and identity, embodied in the continuity of Longridge’s enduring values. #longridgetowersschool #carpediem #Shakespeare #StGeorgesDay #assembly #40thanniversary ...
