Titans Unearth a Masterclass in Nissan’s Robotic Engineering

MOVE over, Indiana Jones, there’s a new team of explorers in town! Longridge’s very own school robotics team headed to the Nissan plant to compete in this year’s “Unearthed” Lego Robotics competition.

Equipped with nothing but plastic bricks, ingenious code and a lot of caffeine-free determination, the team faced a gruelling course. The “Robot Game” was no walk in the park, featuring 14 high-stakes challenges including treacherous sliding traps, heavy boulders, and even a minecart race inspired by the silver screen.

The Longridge team of Hannah, Ethan, Miriam, Ethan and Ben spent weeks in the lab on a mission to design, build and refine their mechanical masterpiece, affectionately named ‘Bob’.

But it wasn’t just about the robot. The team also tackled a real-world Innovation Project, focusing on the security of archaeological sites. To protect precious artefacts from looters, they pitched a high-tech laser perimeter detection alarm – a solution that impressed judges and showcased their forward-thinking approach to engineering.

When it came time to hit the arena, the atmosphere was electric. The team showed incredible resilience, improving their performance in every single round. The final sprint was a nail-biter. While a stubborn minecart and a stationary boulder kept them just shy of the 200-mark, the team’s final score of 190 was a testament to their hard work and never-say-die attitude.

A team spokesperson told us: “The team worked incredibly hard to refine Bob’s movements under pressure. Seeing it all come together in that final round was a huge win for us!”
