Female captains lead the new head team
Longridge has appointed two female School Captains for 2026-27 with a strong team of prefects to help them lead and inspire, and ensure a student voice is at the heart of shaping the school’s new chapter.
Zoe and Poppy are the School Captains for the forthcoming year, with George and Isla the Deputy School Captains. Liam will captain Home House, with Mahi deputy house captain; Xiying captains Jerningham with Connor her deputy; and Nathan and Harry are the new Stobo captain and deputy captain respectively.
Mahi and Jamie have been appointed science prefects, and Xiying art, while Jerry takes on a role as New Pupil Liaison, Nathan and Connon look after Boarding, and Jamie is the head team’s treasurer.
‘Surprised but proud and looking forward to helping everyone enjoy school’
We caught up with some of them earlier today to ask how it felt to be chosen for important roles, and what responsibilities came with them.
Poppy admitted: “I was very surprised when I was told I’d be joint Head Girl with Zoe, as I didn’t expect it, but I am really proud and I am looking forward to it. I’m just looking forward at the moment to trying to help everyone to enjoy their time at school, particularly the younger ones.”
Zoe said: “It means a lot to be chosen as joint School Captain and I think we’re all quite excited to get started.
“It will mean more in terms of responsibilities that we will have in our final year, and we will organise events, but I think it’s more about being good role models to the younger years.”
Isla added: “I think it is important to have a strong student voice and part of our roles as deputies will be to properly organise and strengthen the school council, with representatives from each year group, and make sure that everyone knows that they have a voice at Longridge.”
House system can help motivate students to give their best
Xiying feels that the traditional three-house system remains an important part of Longridge life and can be used to motivate pupils.
“Obviously, as Head of Jerningham, a big part of my role will be to motivate everyone to love Jerningham House, and want to do their best to ensure we are the best house!” she said.
“I think being part of a house, with points available for lots of different things, can be good for motivation. Pupils will challenge themselves more for house points, whether it’s behaving well in class or doing sport or house music, and try things they haven’t done before, if they really feel part of their House.”
Head team sets the standards and we have to inspire
Nathan commented: “I’m really excited about the opportunity to help lead the school and be role models for younger years, and I think it’s quite exciting that we can help to organise events and put them on for the school.
“I definitely looked up to the Head team when I was younger and looked to them to know how I should act and behave, and maybe, as Xiying says, be inspired to try new things.
“They set the standards I think of what is expected and as a youngster you want to be like them, so we have to be aware of that now and try to inspire younger pupils to be the best they can be. There’s definitely a bit of pressure with that, but I do feel this whole head team are good role models, and we’ll do a great job.”
George added: “Oh, yeah, I’m buzzing. I can’t wait for the new term. With a new Headteacher coming, it is the start of something new, and I think it’s going to be a cracking year.
“We prefects have an important role now to work with the new Headteacher when he arrives, and all the staff, to make the school better. We love the school but we have to look to the future and try to leave it better than we found it, and we want to get everyone involved in that to be a strong community.”
